IFRC leaders offer condolences to IRCS over rescuer’s death in flood mission
GENEVA, TEHRAN, 23 December 2025 (IRCS) – The President and Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) have conveyed their condolences to the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) following the death of rescuer Mohammad Ghorban during a flood rescue operation in Fars.
IFRC President Kate Forbes and Secretary General Jagan Chapagain expressed their sympathies in a joint message sent to IRCS President Pir Hossein Kolivand. The full text of the message reads as follows:   Dear President, It is with profound sadness that we learned of the tragic loss of Mohammad Ghorban, a devoted rescuer from Fars, who lost his life while helping others during the floods in Jahrom on 19 December 2025. Mohammad Ghorban lost his life in service to others, responding to people trapped by rising waters, at a moment when courage, compassion, and selflessness were most needed. On behalf of the entire International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), we extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, colleagues, and to the Iranian Red Crescent Society. Our thoughts are with them in this moment of grief. His service will not be forgotten and will live on in the lives he sought to protect. With deepest sympathy,
