Italian, Spanish Red Cross Leaders Extend Condolences for Fallen Iranian Aid Worker
TEHRAN/ MADRID/ ROME, 08 February 2026 (IRCS) – The Presidents of the Italian and Spanish Red Cross Societies have sent their messages to the President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), expressing their sympathy following the death of an IRCS aid worker during recent terrorist unrest in the country.
Ms. Maria del Mar Pageo, President of the Spanish Red Cross, expressed her condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the family of the late Amir Ali Latifi, as well as to his colleagues and all members of the Red Crescent Society of the Islamic Republic of Iran. “We also wish a swift and full recovery to all the relief workers who were injured,” added Ms. del Mar Pageo. Furthermore, Mr. Rosario Maria Gianluca Valastro, President of the Italian Red Cross Society, wrote: “We were deeply saddened to learn of the loss of your dedicated colleague, Mr. Amirali, who died while carrying out his humanitarian mission, as well as the injuries sustained by other relief workers. Please accept our heartfelt condolences and our solidarity with his family, colleagues, and the entire Iranian Red Crescent Community.” He added: “Please be assured of our continued solidarity and support within the movement, and of our readiness to contribute, together with partners, to efforts aimed at safeguarding humanitarian space and ensuring the continuity of assistance to those in need.” Previously, the President and Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the Presidents of the Palestine and Germany National Societies had also sent messages of sympathy to the President of the Iranian Red Crescent.
