ICRC President Appreciates Iranian Red Crescent After Visit to Tehran
TEHRAN, 11 May 2026 (IRCS) - Mirjana Spoljaric, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), expressed appreciation to the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) following her visit to Iran on April 29, highlighting the outcomes of her meetings and field visits.
During her trip, Ms. Spoljaric visited several areas of Tehran affected by U.S.–Israel airstrikes. In a letter to the President of the IRCS, she thanked him for the constructive discussions on humanitarian issues and praised the dedication of IRCS staff working under challenging circumstances. The full message from the ICRC President to the President of the IRCS reads as follows: Dear Dr Kolivand, Thank you for welcoming me to Tehran and for taking the time to show me some of the places affected by the hostilities. Although my visit was brief, I was able to see first-hand the devastating consequences of the conflict for civilians. I can only commend you and your staff and volunteers for your unwavering commitment to helping those affected. My visit allowed us to talk in depth about our shared humanitarian concerns, as well as opportunities for greater cooperation, and I greatly appreciated the openness and quality of our discussions. I look forward to following up on these discussions and to further strengthening the partnership between our two organizations. I would be most grateful if you could extend my thanks to your team for their hospitality during my visit, and for their continued dedication to the humanitarian cause in such challenging circumstances. Yours sincerely,   Mirjana Spoljaric
