GENEVA, 28 May 2026 (IRCS) - The Secretary General of the International ‎Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has expressed full ‎solidarity with the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) during a high-level ‎meeting in Geneva.‎
Dr. Pir-Hossein Kolivand, President of the IRCS, met with IFRC Secretary General Jagan Chapagain to discuss the extensive relief operations carried out during the airstrikes on Iran between February 28 and April 8, 2026. During the session, Dr. Kolivand detailed the IRCS’s medical and logistical efforts while highlighting numerous violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL), including the deliberate targeting of civilians, aid workers, and critical infrastructure. For his part, Mr. Chapagain highly praised the Iranian Red Crescent’s humanitarian response. He reaffirmed the IFRC’s commitment to supporting these relief efforts and ensuring that IHL violations are followed up through international channels. “At a time when women, children, and civilians are being targeted, you have courageously defended their human rights; such dedication is truly worthy of commendation and respect,” the Secretary General stated. Addressing the challenges posed by external pressures, Mr. Chapagain emphasized: “My primary objective is to work toward mitigating the impact of sanctions on the humanitarian activities of the Iranian Red Crescent.” He further pledged: “We will strive to reconstruct and replenish the depleted capacities and reserves of the Iranian Red Crescent. While you are remarkably capable and resilient, it is the collective duty of the international community and the Federation to support you in this endeavor.” Concluding the meeting, Mr. Chapagain told Dr. Kolivand: “You are the pride of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, bringing immense credit and prestige to this entire Movement.”
