TEHRAN, 30 September 2026 (IRCS) - The Head of the ICRC Delegation in Iran met with the President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) to discuss the expansion of cooperation between the two organizations, as well as to follow up on key International Humanitarian Law issues, such as the situation of detained Iranian pilots in Qatar.

In a meeting held at the IRCS Peace Building between Pir Hossein Kolivand, President of the IRCS, and Marisela Silva Chau, the newly appointed Head of the ICRC Delegation in Iran, both sides welcomed the continuation of cooperation on previous joint projects.

“Rehabilitation, CBRN-related issues, and raising awareness about the risks of mines and explosive ordnance are key areas with substantial potential for continued and expanded joint cooperation,” said Kolivand.

He called for a follow-up on the status of the three Iranian pilots in Qatar.

“The President of the Iranian Red Crescent also requested that the ICRC follow up on the status of the Shahin 2 crew members, stating: ‘We currently lack clear information regarding the status and whereabouts of the vessel’s crew. We expect the International Committee of the Red Cross to pursue this matter seriously so that their fate and current location can be clarified.”

For her part, Marisela Silva Chau emphasized the necessity of transparency, integrity, and constructive engagement in the relations between the two organizations, and announced the ICRC delegation’s readiness to continue and expand joint cooperation with the Iranian Red Crescent Society.

“We would like to continue the joint collaborations and programs established over the past years in close coordination and engagement with the Iranian Red Crescent, and to pave the way for their further strengthening,” she added.

Ms. Silva Chau also stated that following up on the status of the Iranian pilots has been a priority since the early days of her mission in Iran.

“I am in daily communication with the heads of the ICRC offices in Qatar and Kuwait,” she said. “We are working through various channels to obtain reliable information about their status, location, and well-being.”
