Stephane Bonamy, Head of the ICRC delegation in Iran, addressed a letter to Razieh Alishavandi, the IRCS Under-Secretary-General for International Affairs and International Humanitarian Law, confirming that Dr. Kolivand’s latest correspondence has been referred to his office.

In his response, Bonamy stated that the ICRC is actively engaging with all relevant parties and institutions, operating strictly within the principles of impartiality, independence, and neutrality.

He noted that the ICRC utilizes confidential bilateral dialogue with the parties involved to address concerns regarding missing persons, in accordance with applicable international humanitarian law.

Furthermore, Bonamy affirmed that “if relevant information is provided by the Qatari authorities, the ICRC will ensure it is shared with the appropriate officials to facilitate informing the families.”

This development follows persistent efforts by the Iranian Red Crescent Society to address the matter. Having engaged in numerous follow-ups and correspondence with the ICRC, the IRCS has made the published reports concerning the detention of Iranian pilots in Qatar a priority, consistently demanding clarification on their status.

Previously, in his letter to Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, Dr. Kolivand cited emerging reports, evidence, and gathered information, urging the international body to intervene urgently. Emphasizing the humanitarian dimensions of the crisis, he stressed the necessity of determining the whereabouts of the individuals, ensuring their well-being, and guaranteeing that they are afforded the full protections and safeguards stipulated under international humanitarian law.
