Around 2:33 a.m. local time on Thursday, January 9, a bus carrying more than 40 passengers, which was travelling from Tehran to Gonbad Kavus, Golestan Province, northern Iran, crashed into a valley near Savadkuh County, Mazandaran Province, due to high speed and brake failure, killing 19 passengers and injuring 24 others.

Red Crescent sent six ambulances and nine relief teams to the spot.

Red Crescent relief workers pulled 10 dead bodies out of the bus, which was badly damaged.

Two injured were taken to the medical centers by a Red Crescent ambulance and the others by EMS ambulances.
