Speaking at the 12th MENA Regional Conference in Beirut, Pir Hossein Kolivand said the mechanism would bring the scattered capabilities of National Societies together to create a shared, accessible capacity.

Kolivand said the mechanism could be built on three pillars. The first is diversifying funding sources by expanding cooperation with the private sector, financial institutions and foundations, while drawing on countries’ local resources. The second is identifying and sharing the products, services, knowledge and specialized expertise of National Societies. The third is establishing secure, fast and reliable financial and banking mechanisms to transfer humanitarian resources, particularly to National Societies facing financial and banking restrictions.

Kolivand also proposed creating a joint marketplace for humanitarian capacities.

“The products, services, knowledge, infrastructure and specialized expertise that each National Society can offer, as well as its needs, would be identified,” he said. “This would enable National Societies to meet some of one another’s needs through cooperation and mutual partnership, rather than relying solely on external resources.”

“Our Movement is not only about sharing resources; it is also about sharing capacities, knowledge, experience and responsibility,” he added. “We share in humanity’s pain and suffering. And just as we stand by one another in difficult times, we should also share in the hope, progress and joy of nations.”
