Iranian Red Crescent showcases hors-mounted teams for accessing remote disaster areas

TEHRAN, 19 April 2026 (IRCS) – The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) showcased its capabilities in a field exercise today.

A delegation from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), currently visiting Iran to assess damage from recent airstrikes, attended the event, which was held at an IRCS relief camp in Shahryar County, Tehran.

During the exercise, the IRCS introduced horse‑mounted teams as a new addition to its relief capabilities.

These mounted aid workers are trained to provide emergency assistance in disaster zones with difficult‑to‑reach terrain.

In addition, sniffer dog teams and psychosocial support teams carried out simulated operations as part of the drill.
