President of ICRC sent a message of condolence over killing of IRCS aid worker

GENEVA/ TEHRAN, 02 February 2026 (IRCS) - Ms. Mirjana Spoljaric, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has expressed her condolence to Dr Pir Hossein Kolivand, President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), following the killing of Amir Ali Latifi, an IRCS aid worker during the recent terrorist unrest in the country.

The full message of Ms Spoljaric to Mr Kolivand reads as follows:    

 

On behalf of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), I wish to express my deepest condolences on the death of Mr Amir Ali Latifi, a volunteer of the Red Crescent of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

 We are profoundly saddened by his loss and the wounding of five others as they provided humanitarian assistance. Thess six volunteers dedicated their time and energy to alleviating the suffering others – embodying the spirit of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The ICRC stands with your National Society during this difficult time. Please pass on our best wishes for recovery to the injured volunteers and our heartfelt condolences to Mr Latifi’s family and loved ones, and to the entire Red Crescent community affected by these tragic events.
