Iran’s Red Crescent President Meets with IFRC Under Secretary General ‎to Strengthen Humanitarian Ties

GENEVA, 27 May 2026 (IRCS) – The President of the Iranian Red Crescent ‎Society (IRCS) has met with senior officials from the International ‎Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to discuss ‎critical humanitarian issues during his visit to Geneva.‎

Pir-Hossein Kolivand, visiting Geneva at the invitation of the IFRC, held his first meeting with Xavier Castellanos, the IFRC Under Secretary General for National Society Development and Operations Coordination. During the session, the IRCS President provided a detailed report outlining the Society’s extensive services in relief operations, medical care, and volunteer mobilization.

Dr. Kolivand urged the Federation to pursue legal recourse, uphold its statutory obligations, and take decisive action regarding the impact of sanctions on humanitarian operations.

For his part, Xavier Castellanos noted that following his recent visit to Iran, he has briefed government officials and leaders of more than 60 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on the IRCS’s vast capabilities.

He emphasized that these discussions have laid the groundwork for expanding multilateral humanitarian cooperation.

Mr. Castellanos had previously traveled to Tehran following the U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Iran, where he personally inspected civilian infrastructure damaged in the attacks.
