IRCS and IFRC to Organize a Global Memorial Ceremony for Martyred aid workers

GENEVA, 27 May 2026 (IRCS) - In a meeting in Geneva, Dr. Pir-Hossein Kolivand, ‎President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), and senior IFRC directors of ‎Humanitarian Diplomacy, Media, and Crisis Partnerships agreed to organize a ‎global memorial ceremony for aid workers who have lost their lives in ‎humanitarian operations.‎

The participants underscored that this global commemoration, beyond honoring the sacrifices of relief personnel, is intended to highlight the perils posed by violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL). Furthermore, the initiative aims to bolster international support for relief forces and foster a global culture of safeguarding humanitarian missions.

The President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society has traveled to Geneva at the invitation of IFRC to share imposed war experiences and hold meetings with officials from the IFRC and the ICRC.
