IRCS and ICRC Presidents Meet in Geneva to Address Urgent Humanitarian Issues

GENEVA, 27 May 2026 (IRCS) – The President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) and ‎the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) met to discuss the reopening of ‎the Iranian Hospital in Dubai and the release of a critical medical consignment seized aboard the vessel ‎Touska.‎

Pir-Hossein Kolivand, visiting Geneva at the invitation of the IFRC, held a meeting with Mirjana Spoljaric, President of the ICRC. The two leaders discussed urgent humanitarian challenges arising from the recent U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Iran.

During the meeting, Dr. Kolivand emphasized that the reopening of the IRCS-affiliated Iranian Hospital in Dubai is a vital humanitarian and strategic priority. He urged the ICRC to provide active support and follow-up to resolve the administrative and legal barriers surrounding the hospital.

Furthermore, the IRCS President addressed the seizure of the Iranian container ship Touska by the United States. The vessel was carrying a humanitarian shipment belonging to Soha Helal Company (affiliated with the IRCS), which includes essential raw materials for dialysis patients. Dr. Kolivand called for the immediate release of these life-saving medical supplies.

In response, Ms. Spoljaric committed to addressing both issues by leveraging international channels and diplomatic consultations.

Mr. Kolivand also expressed his gratitude to the ICRC President for her recent visit to Tehran to inspect civilian infrastructure damaged by U.S.-Israel airstrikes. He called for an independent, transparent, and decisive investigation into violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL), emphasizing the critical need to protect civilians, medical facilities, and humanitarian workers during times of conflict.

For her part, Ms. Spoljaric assured that all promises and agreements from his trip to Iran will be pursued.
