IRCS Responds to Khoy Earthquake

URMIA (IRCS) – The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has provided relief assistance to support the affected areas after an earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale shook Khoy County in the northwestern Iranian province of West Azerbaijan in early on Wednesday, October 5.

According to the Seismological Center affiliated to Institute of Geophysics of Tehran University, the quake occurred at 03:51 hours local time in depth of 10 km.

The IRCS sent 31 relief teams to assess the affected areas immediately.

The West Azerbaijan Red Crescent provincial branch has prepared a sport complex to set up emergency camp to accommodate the affected households.

The quake caused fissures in the walls of the houses in the city of Dizaj Diz and Shur Bolagh village

In Seyyed Tajuddin village, three old houses without inhabitants have been destroyed.

No one was killed in Khoy earthquake.

The quake has resulted in 311 injures, mostly received outpatient services by the forces of Emergency Medical Services and the Red Crescent’s relief workers. 74 people are hospitalized.

This earthquake caused electricity outages and gas leaks in some areas affected by the quake.
