UPDATED/ Sistan and Baluchestan flooding: Red Crescent provides assistance to flood-affected people using relief helicopters

ZAHEDAN, 07 March 2024 (IRCS) - The Red Crescent's helicopters have delivered 10,000 food packages to individuals impacted by the floods in Sistan and Baluchestan, particularly in regions inaccessible because of the flooding.

The rain in Sistan and Baluchistan province started on February 26 and continued to intensify. As a result, flooding occurred in 14 cities in the province, causing damage to infrastructure such as bridges, roads, and houses in the southern part of Sistan and Baluchistan.

So far, the Red Crescent teams have provided relief services to 663 villages affected by the floods. In addition, 38,276 individuals were supported by the Red Crescent. 

The Red Crescent offered emergency shelter to 1,059 hoseholds (including 4,205 people) and saved 91 individuals from the flood.

The Red Crescent helicopters have transported aid supplies to 18 villages affected by the floods. Furthermore, 10,000 food parcels along with 10,200 bottled water, blankets and other supplies were given out in the areas impacted by the flooding. 

The nearby provinces have dispatched 33 shipments of food and relief supplies to Sistan and Baluchistan.

The Iranian Red Crescent has employed 2,603 aid workers and rescuers along with 497 relief vehicles to assist those impacted by the floods in the province. 

The Society also designated a bank account where people can contribute cash donations to aid those affected by the floods.

The Red Crescent's assistance is ongoing in the southern regions of Sistan and Baluchestan.
