Speaking at a press conference held at the Peace Building of the IRCS on the occasion of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day (May 8), Meysam Afshar, Secretary General of the IRCS, said that 1,500 new rescue vehicles will be added to relief fleet of the Iranian Red Crescent.

Afshar said that this week the Red Crescent’s achievements will be showcased in the main squares of major cities.

"A narrative campaign led by aid workers will also take place during this week. The quantitative and qualitative expansion of services at Iranian Red Crescent pharmacies will also be carried out during this period. The “Our Iran People’s Front” campaign began in the early days of the war and will be pursued more seriously from now on. The opening of the House of Artists is also scheduled for this week,” Secretary General of the IRCS adedd.

the Society conducted 6,003 relief operations following airstrikes on Iran by the United States and Israel from February 28 to April 7, 2026.

“A total of 110,000 operational personnel, organized in 7,986 teams, were deployed,” he added. “More than 28,000 rescuers were deployed in the operations”.

Afshar said that the Red Crescent’s relief warehouses were stocked with 1.2 million food parcels between the second and third imposed wars, providing food for five million people for one week.

According to Afshar, IRCS aid workers transported 7,144 people injured in the war to medical centers, while 10,380 others received outpatient treatment at the scene of the attacks.

Furthermore, Iranian Red Crescent sniffer dogs carried out 1,711 search-and-rescue operations.

Although the Iranian Red Crescent Society did not request assistance from foreign countries, 18 countries and international institutions sent humanitarian consignments to the IRCS, the Secretary General added.

Referring to the activities of the 4030 hotline during the war, Dr. Afshar said that volunteer consultants responded to 205,000 calls, providing psychosocial support to the public.

According to Afshar, more than 2,500 people on average visited Iranian Red Crescent pharmacies daily, and 340,926 prescriptions were dispensed during this period.
