In his message, Dr. Pir Hossein Kolivand wrote: “Every time on the anniversary of the return of prisoners of war to their homeland, the glory of the perseverance of these pious people is reflected in the atmosphere of the country.”

He also reminded the efforts of the division of Searching for Prisoners of War and Missing Persons in the Iranian Red Crescent during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980’s and honored the memory of the martyred aid worker of the Red Crescent in the war.

490 Iranian Red Crescent aid workers were martyred while providing first aid to the wounded on the fronts of the Iran-Iraq war.

Furthermore, during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980's, in cooperation with the ICRC, the Iranian Red Crescent Society's Division of Search for War Prisoners and Missing Persons exchanged more than 6,000,000 messages between Iranian war prisoners in Iraq and their families in Iran.
