IRCS President Meets Veteran Staff Members

TEHRAN (IRCS) – Dr Pir Hossein Kolivand, the President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society met with the veteran staff members of the Division of Search for War Prisoners and Missing Persons of the Society on Saturday who served during the Iran-Iraq war in 1980s.

The meeting was arranged on the occasion of the anniversary of the return of the Iranian prisoners of war to the country.

“The Iranian Red Crescent has performed jihadi services in some parts of Iran's past one hundred years of history, and those memories and sacrifices should be kept alive today,” said Kolivand in the meeting.

“The efforts of the Division of Search for War Prisoners and Missing Persons within and after the imposed war were among these jihadi actions,” he added.

The IRCS president also proposed making a TV of the narratives and memories in the cases of Iranian and Iraqi prisoners of war.

 Ms Najmeh Hassanpour, the former Head of the IRCS Division of Search for War Prisoners and Missing Persons, said: “The division registered 78,000 cases for the Iranian Prisoners of war and followed up their conditions through the International Committee of the Red Cross,”

 These files are maintained in the National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) in Tehran.

“Before the release of the prisoners of war in August 1990, more than 6 million letters were exchanged between the prisoners and their families by the Division of Search for War Prisoners and Missing Persons.” She added.
