Over the course of the previous five days (3-7 January 2024), there was severe weather that affected several provinces in Iran. These provinces include West Azarbaijan, East Azarbaijan, Ardabil, Alborz, Zanjan, Qazvin, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Kohgiluyeh and Boiyer Ahmad, Golestan, Guilan, Lorestan, Mazandaran, Hamedan, and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari. During this time, 75 mountain roads required assistance and relief services.
The Iranian Red Crescent aid workers helped a total of 7,850 individuals across various provinces and offered emergency shelter to 1,393 individuals.
In addition, there were 205 teams providing assistance with a total of 616 workers and rescuers on the mission.
After conducting a search lasting seven hours, rescuers successfully located and rescued four individuals who had become disoriented in a snowstorm in Zanjan.
Furthermore, a total of 665 vehicles were rescued from the snow by aid workers.
The Red Crescent also provided blankets, food packages, bottled water, canned food, bread, dates, and biscuits to the individuals who were stranded on the snowy roads.
