President of IRCS to BRICS: Peace requires justice, development

TEHRAN, RIO DE JANEIRO, 05 July 2025 (IRCS) – The President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society ‎‎(IRCS), Pir Hossein Kolivand, delivered a speech via video link to the BRICS Civil Council, highlighting the ‎bloc's significant role in advancing global peace and sustainable development.‎

Addressing the event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Kolivand emphasized the urgent need for international solidarity to confront shared challenges, including war, sanctions, poverty, and environmental crises.

"Peace today is not merely the absence of war," Kolivand stated, "but is intrinsically linked to justice, access to healthcare and education, and the active participation of citizens."

He proposed four key strategies for BRICS to shape a more equitable future, including “strengthening relief systems and community resilience during crises”, “promoting multilateral diplomacy and peaceful dialogue”, “advancing equitable development through knowledge exchange and human justice”, and “lifting unilateral sanctions”.

Kolivand announced the Iranian Red Crescent's readiness to collaborate with BRICS members to establish a joint platform for humanitarian relief and the exchange of expertise.

Concluding his address, the IRCS President paid tribute to martyred aid workers of the Iranian Red Crescent. He stressed the connection between peace and development, saying: “BRICS can be the standard-bearer for a more humane, empathetic, and just world.”
