IRCS welcomes first birth at its Nairobi Hospital

Nairobi, 06 January 2026 (IRCS) – The first baby has been born at the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya.

The birth took place in the newly established maternity ward. Both mother and baby received the necessary medical care, and their overall condition has been reported as satisfactory.

“Following the first birth at the IRCS Hospital in Kenya, the facility has entered a new phase of providing healthcare services to the people of Kenya, a phase founded on human dignity, solidarity, and equitable access to medical care,” said Dr. Hamid Dehghan, the IRCS Under-Secretary General for Health, Treatment, and Rehabilitation.

“The baby was named Cyrus in agreement with the family and upon the hospital’s suggestion, a name that, in Kenya’s religious and cultural context, symbolizes mutual respect and conveys a message of peace between nations.” He added.

Through its healthcare diplomacy, the Iranian Red Crescent continues to serve patients in Kenya and several other countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America by sharing medical expertise and supporting the development of healthcare systems in underprivileged communities.
