The full text of Mr. Johnen’s message is as follows:

Dear Mr. President

Dear colleagues from Iranian Red Crescent Society

On behalf of the German Red Cross, I would like to convey our heartfelt condolences for the loss of IRCS staff member Amir Ali Latifi who died in the line of duty in Rasht in the Gillan Province, on the 10th of January 2026.

Mr. Ali Latifi’s dedication reflected the core values of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, marked by a profound sense of duty and service to people in need. We also have received with deep concern the reports of the wounding of five additional staff members. Despite these tragic circumstances, the actions undertaken by the Iranian Red Crescent Society demonstrate professionalism, resolve, and a clear focus on reaching affected communities without delay.

We therefore extend our sympathy to your teams and volunteers as they continue to operate in a complex and demanding environment. Please be assured of the German Red Cross’s continued solidarity.

 Yours sincerely;

Christof Johnen

Director of International Cooperation Division
