IFRC President and Secretary General Condole Killing of IRCS Aid Worker

GENEVA/ TEHRAN, 28 January 2026 (IRCS) – The President and Secretary General of the Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) have extended their condolences following the killing of Amir Ali Latifi, an Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) aid worker during the recent terrorist unrest in the country.

The full message of Ms Forbes, President, and Mr Chapagain, Secretary General, of the IFRC to Dr Kolivand, President of the IRCS, reads as follows:                                                                                                                                                           

 

Dear Dr. Kolivand,

We were truly devasted to learn about the tragic loss of Mr. Amir Ali Latifi, a team member of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), who was killed while on duty.

On behalf of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), please accept our heartfelt condolences, which we convey as well to Amir’s family, friends and colleagues.

We are also deeply concerned about five other IRCS members who were injured during rescue operations in Ezeeh province. We hope for their swift and full recovery.

The IFRC stands in full solidarity with the entire IRCS family during this tragic time. We recognize that the IRCS suffered far too many losses in 2025 and we stand with you during this difficult time. We condemn all attacks on humanitarian workers and facilities, and we will continue reiterate the need for respect and protection of humanitarian workers.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences. Amir’s service and dedication to the IRCS will always be remembered.
