The appeal was made during a meeting in Tehran between Razieh Alishavandi, Under Secretary-General for International Affairs and International Humanitarian Law at the IRCS, and Vincent Cassard, the Head of the ICRC delegation. The two sides discussed various humanitarian issues, with a focus on the situation in Gaza.
“The human crisis in Gaza requires immediate and practical action. We expect the ICRC to take serious and effective measures in response to the Gaza crisis,” said Mrs. Alishavandi. “By playing an active role, it can help alleviate the suffering of the oppressed people of Gaza,” she added.
Alishavandi also emphasized the need to enhance preparedness and collaboration for future humanitarian responses. She noted that the ICRC could play an important role by supporting the IRCS's new approaches in the fields of community preparedness and resilience.
Referring to the IRCS’s activities in the provinces of Tehran, Khorasan Razavi, South Khorasan, and Sistan and Baluchestan, she stated that continuing rehabilitation and primary health services for vulnerable families, particularly those with disabled members in both national and host communities, relies on sustained ICRC support and funding
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed joint projects, such as raising awareness about the dangers of mines in border areas and equipping rehabilitation centers for primary health services.
Furthermore, Alishavandi proposed organizing annual meetings to review achievements.
