IRCS, Brazil discuss BRICS humanitarian cooperation

TEHRAN, 03 November 2025 (IRCS) – Marco Fernandes, Brazil’s representative in the Civil BRICS Council, met with Pir Hossein Kolivand, President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), to discuss avenues for cooperation within the council.

During the meeting held at the IRCS Peace Building, Mr. Kolivand, who also heads the council’s health working group, highlighted the Iranian Red Crescent’s strong connections with other member states in this field.

“We can train social service teams within BRICS and also benefit from the experiences of other countries,” Kolivand said.

He stressed that fostering synergy and sharing experiences among BRICS members in relief and rescue operations could help establish a common approach to disaster management.

This, he noted, would significantly enhance effectiveness and response speed during potential international crises.

Mr. Kolivand also proposed that BRICS member states form a joint group to provide humanitarian assistance to deprived areas in non-BRICS countries by pooling their capacities and resources.

For his part, Mr. Fernandes stated that the Civil BRICS Council aims to take key initiatives through the exchange of capacities and expertise among member nations.

“The Iranian Red Crescent, with its vast potential and extensive experience in carrying out humanitarian operations at both national and international levels, can play a very effective role in this regard,” he said.

Brazil representative in Civil BRICS Council welcomed Mr. Kolivand’s views on mitigating the impact of sanctions through barter-based exchanges.

“Iran has shown its strength during sanctions, and as Mr. Kolivand mentioned, it can serve as a teacher in dealing with such challenges,” Fernandes noted.
